Volunteers Needed
10/13/2009
The Grateful Thread is always looking for volunteers to help ripping fabric into strips, organizing colors of fabrics and accents, weaving, sewing and other light tasks. Please call Schuylkill Women in Crisis (SWIC) at 570.622.3991 if you are interested in volunteering at the agency or at The Grateful Thread.
The Grateful Thread is a weaving store offering handmade, one-of-a-kind products to suit every taste. It is a project of Schuylkill Women in Crisis (SWIC), a private nonprofit organization providing free and confidential services to victims of domestic violence in rural Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. SWIC was founded in 1983 by area volunteers aware of the prevalence of domestic violence in this rural community and concerned by the lack of services to help victims. For more information about SWIC and its services, check the website www.s-wic.org.
SWIC receives many donations of clothing and household items throughout the year. Employees and volunteers at The Grateful Thread shred articles of clothing, curtains, and any other unused donated fabric item and then weave these strips of cloth into colorful and unique items. The Grateful Thread specializes in six hand-woven products, available in many color combinations, and customers can special order items based on specific color or design requests. Visit our online store.
In addition, items can be custom made as a way to memorialize loved ones. For example, if you have family fabric items of sentimental value, -- such as men’s neckties, baby blankets, or a gown -- we can use your treasures to create a unique woven item destined to become a family heirloom. You may also order a custom-made item.
The weaving process at The Grateful Thread has environmental benefits as well. The majority of our woven products are constructed of 75% or more post consumer fibers.
